Y/S Assists on Office of Renewable Energy Siting’s First Two Permits Under New Section 94-c Renewable Energy Siting Process

On June 25, 2021, Riverhead Solar 2, LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of AES Clean Energy, Inc, was granted a siting permit for a major renewable energy facility under New York’s new Section 94-c siting process by the Office of Renewable Energy Siting (“ORES”). The Project is an approximately 36-MW solar powered electric generating facility to be located in the Town of Riverhead, Suffolk County, New York. The Riverhead Solar 2 project began the permitting process in 2017 under Public Service Law Article 10 and transferred to ORES earlier this year. In just over 6 months, ORES granted the project a Final Permit under Section 94-c.
On the same day, Morris Ridge Solar Energy Center, LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of EDF Renewables Development, Inc., was also granted a siting permit for their major renewable energy facility, a 177-MW solar facility and an 83-MW battery energy storage facility to be located in the Town of Mount Morris, Livingston County, New York. The Morris Ridge Solar project began the permitting process in 2018 under Public Service Law Article 10 and transferred to ORES earlier this year as well.
