Partner Laura Bomyea Darling Presents on Renewable Siting

Posted on March 6, 2025

On March 3, 2025, Laura Bomyea Darling joined a panel of experts discussing Permitting of Large-Scale Renewables before the NYS Office of Renewable Energy Siting, as part of a New York State Bar Association (NYSBA) Environmental and Energy Law Section (EELS) event entitled “Hot Topics in Siting Renewable Energy Facilities in New York.”   The panel included the Chief Administrative Law Judge at ORES and a private practitioner representing host municipalities before ORES, while Laura discussed representing renewable developer applicants for Siting Permits before ORES, and the changing regulatory and legal landscapes those clients face as New York works toward meeting the Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act (CLCPA) target of generating 70% renewable energy by 2030.

Laura also recently presented on renewable siting topics during the NYSBA-EELS Brownfield and Superfund Update on December 4, 2024, where she discussed opportunities brownfields and industrial sites can offer to facilitate renewable development, and how energy generation can provide formerly contaminated sites a brighter future.

Young/Sommer’s thriving Renewable Energy, Power and Transmission Practice (Link to: https://www.youngsommer.com/practice_areas/power-energy-and-transmission) advises renewable energy and transmission developers, along with other clients in the energy sector, on permitting, regulatory, compliance and construction in New York.  Since assisting with New York’s earliest on-shore wind projects, Young/Sommer has permitted over 4000 MWs of permitted renewable energy projects in the Empire State.
